SPECIAL BINS AND LIMITED EDITIONS
FIRST VINTAGE
1948 Kalimna Cabernet Sauvignon was the first declared Special Bin. There have been a number of one-off releases often limited to a single barrel or micro-blend.
VARIETY
Generally based on shiraz and cabernet sauvignon.
ORIGIN
Multi-regional sourcing. Block 20s and 10, Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon, Kalimna Vineyard and Koonunga Hill shiraz and cabernet sauvignon feature regularly.
FERMENTATION
Open-fermenters at Magill Estate or stainless steel tanks with header boards. Fermentation completed in new oak.
MATURATION
A variable maturation philosophy. The common theme is approximately 15 months in new American or French oak hogsheads (300 litres), but this is by no means uniform.
