ORIGIN
A single-vineyard wine made with selected parcels of fruit from three blocks of the 5.2-hectare Mag ll Estate vineyard in Adelaide, South Australia.
FERMENTATION
Wax-lined, open concrete fermenters with wooden header boards. After basket pressing, components complete fermentation in barrel.
MATURATION
12 to 15 months in new French (approximately 65 percent) and American (approximately 35 percent) oak hogsheads.
COMMENTS
Approximately 1500 to 3000 cases. Although the wine was first made in 1983, the vineyard has been in production since around 1847 and was planted in 1844.
The Magill Estate Shiraz is a rare and important monopole wine. It has a legacy of the past yet with
a distinct Penfolds style, a single-vineyard character and a purpose to perpetuate over time.
