Limited Editions Tasting Notes

In the spirit of innovation, a collection of Limited Edition wines have been unveiled in recent years. These rare offerings continue to lead the way in the world of fine wine. These Limited Editions include the Ampoule, a glass creation which houses the rare 2004 Kalimna Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon and the release of the 2010 Bin 170 Kalimna Shiraz.

In 1973, Penfolds crafted an experimental Bin 170 Shiraz sourced entirely from the nineteenth-century Kalimna Vineyard. All grapes were picked from Block 3C – a parcel that is often included in the Grange blend. In 2010, the Penfolds winemakers kept Block 3C separate, realising they had the potential to re-create a classic.

The Penfolds Ampoule Project is a collaboration of designer-maker Hendrik Forster, furniture craftsman Andrew Bartlett, glass artist Nick Mount and scientific glassblower Ray Leake. At its core is the Kalimna Vineyard’s celebrated Block 42. The 2004 vintage resulted in beautifully aromatic, perfectly balanced and ripe Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 42, Kalimna Vineyard.
