KOONUNGA HILL VINEYARD

CLIMATE Warm.
LOCATION Northern Barossa, South Australia (locality: Koonunga) – about five kilometres (three miles) north-east of Kalimna.
SOILS Red-brown earth over heavy red clays.
RAINFALL Average rainfall is around 508 mm (20 in). About 200 mm (8 in) falls during the growing season.
IRRIGATION Supplementary irrigation is provided.
GRAPE VARIETIES Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
FRUIT PROFILE This vineyard contributes fruit to Grange, Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon, RWT Shiraz, Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz.

The vineyard comprises 64 hectares (158 acres) of original flat grazing land at an elevation of 280 metres (920 feet). 32 hectares (79 acres) were planted in 1973. The 28 hectare (69 acres) Scholz Block was planted in 1999 and Stage 2 Koonunga Hill was planted in 2007 bringing it to a total of 153 hectares (231 acres).
