BLENCOWE VINEYARD

CLIMATE Mediterranean.
LOCATION The Blencowe Vineyard is located five kilometres (three miles) north-east of the township of McLaren Vale, South Australia.
SOILS Loam, sandy loam.
RAINFALL Average rainfall is 550 mm (22 in).
IRRIGATION Supplementary irrigation is provided.
VITICULTURE The vineyard gently undulates with north–south and east–west rows and features contour plantings in some of the steeper areas. Elevation is 196 metres above sea level at the highest point. Plantings of Shiraz were undertaken in 1972, 2002 and 2008.
GRAPE VARIETIES Shiraz.
FRUIT PROFILE This vineyard contributes fruit to St Henri Shiraz, Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz and Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz.

Vines were originally planted in 1972 and the vineyard spans 25 hectares (61 acres).  More recently (in the 2000s), the vineyard was substantially replanted to high quality shiraz clones and rootstocks.
