LOCATION Stonewell Road, central Barossa Valley, South Australia (locality: Marananga) – four kilometres (three miles) west of Nuriootpa.
SOILS Sandy loams and red-brown soils.
RAINFALL Average rainfall is around 508 mm (20 in). About 200 mm (8 in) falls during the growing season.
IRRIGATION Supplementary irrigation is provided. 
VITICULTURE Vines were first planted in the early 1970s, however a replanting programme was put in place when Penfolds purchased the vineyard in the early 1990s.
GRAPE VARIETIES Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon.
FRUIT PROFILE This vineyard contributes fruit to Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz, Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz, Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz and Bin 2 Shiraz Mourvèdre.

Stonewell consists of 33 hectares (81 acres) on undulating slopes.
