Rare Bin 170 commemorates 170 years of winemaking at Penfolds

Released today, in the year of Penfolds 170th Anniversary, the 2010 Bin 170 Kalimna Shiraz commemorates the extraordinary journey of Penfolds – from 1844 to 2014. This rare, single block, single vineyard wine was produced from the outstanding 2010 vintage and is released as part of the 2014 Icon and Luxury Collection.

Created only once before in 1973, Bin 170 is sourced exclusively from old vines planted in the ancient soils of Block 3C, Kalimna Vineyard, located in the Barossa Valley. 100% hand‐picked and sensitively crafted, this unblended wine evokes a unique sense of place, commands attention, requests little, and appreciates your patience.

Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker says: "How to define such a wine?! It's a Kalimna Monopole - an enigma last crafted and captured in bottle four decades ago, in 1973."

"From the ancient soils of Kalimna, it's a juxtaposition of older times & the contemporary. It's certainly a befitting wine to commemorate Penfolds intriguing and ever-changing 170 year journey."
