Grange 1995

The 1995 Grange is the 45th consecutive vintage of the wine that carries the flag internationally and domestically for the Australian wine industry. Created by the legendary winemaker, the late Max Schubert, Grange's weight and concentration can be traced to rigorous selection of intensely flavoured Shiraz grapes from mature vines in some of South Australia's finest vineyards.

The quantity of Grange made each year is determined by the availability of grapes of the required quality and style. Penfolds multi-region, multi-vineyard blending policy enables winemakers to reduce the impact of vintage variation to the point where experts the world over consider Grange to be among the most consistent of the world's great wines.

Drinking well, but will improve with time. Drinking window now - 2050. 
Taste Description
Deep purple to crimson. Beguiling dark berry, liquorice, nutty, camphor aromas with some savoury notes. The palate is smooth and plush with fleshy blackberry, chocolate, espresso flavours, plentiful chalky tannins and savoury, vanilla oak. Finishes firm and flavourful with a long tannin plume. Lovely density and richness. A great Grange vintage.
Technical Information

Origin: Multi-regional blend, South Australia. From Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Magill Estate (Adelaide).

Maturation: This wine was matured for 16 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads.

Wine Analysis: Alc/Vol: 14.3% Acidity: 7.00g/L pH: 3.61.

Variety: Shiraz (96%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (4%).

Vintage Conditions
Above-average winter rainfall led into a promising vintage, characterised by mild conditions up until February, followed by warmer weather conditions throughout March and April. Penfolds' South Australian vineyards fared well, producing wines of elegance and intensity.
