About Penfolds Wines
Penfolds wines are discernible by a recognisable mid-palate richness, fruit generosity and an ability to cellar, with a consistency assured through a tradition of apprenticeship and long tenures.
Paramount to our approach to winemaking is a focus on meticulous fruit-sourcing and stylistic classification. Penfolds wines are crafted using grapes from the very best wine regions, including the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills, and Magill Estate in Australia, Bordeaux in France, Napa Valley in California, and Shangri-La in China. From these esteemed regions, our collection now comprises an array of premium red wines, white wines, fortified wines and Champagne.
The history of Penfolds wines
The Penfolds story began in 1844 when Dr Christopher and Mary Penfolds planted their first vines at their newly purchased home in Magill, just outside of Adelaide.
For much of Penfolds early years, fortified wines were the primary craft – as was the taste of the Australian wine drinking public. This changed in the 1950s when Penfolds first Chief Winemaker, Max Schubert, dared to experiment with dry red wine styles in pursuit of wine that could stand up to the very best cellar-worthy wines of the world. His trials led to the creation of Grange, which ushered in a new way of thinking at Penfolds that would eventually lead to a signature wine style.
Since then, Penfolds has maintained this pioneering spirit, continuously pushing the boundary of what is perceived possible. These ambitions have seen the release of numerous celebrated wines, including Yattarna andBin 707, as well as an expansion into global winemaking, with wines now crafted by Penfolds winemakers in California, France and China.
Penfolds has also begun collaborating with artists to bring Penfolds wines to life through new and exciting perspectives. Our first creative partner was with NIGO, founder of Human Made and Artistic Director of KENZO.

HOW WE CARE FOR YOUR WINE
Every bottle of Penfolds is special, so we take several measures to ensure your prized wines are cared for before and after your purchase.
When you choose standard shipping, a signature is requested to guarantee it is received by the right hands. Customers are also offered the option to delay shipping if they don’t think they will be home to receive their order. Most of our orders are shipped by next business day, however we never ship during periods of extreme heat. Some Penfolds wines, such as Grange, are packaged in special thermal insulated shippers for an added layer of protection. Penfolds members also enjoy free standard shipping across all orders.
Penfolds care doesn’t end when your wine reaches you. Our Re-corking Clinics are the ultimate after care service, designed to assess and certify your prized Penfolds wines aged fifteen years or older. Since our first clinic in 1991, Penfolds winemakers have assessed over 200,000 bottles across four continents.
