Stonewell Vineyard

The Stonewell Road vineyard was purchased in the mid-1990s and is now producing quintessential Barossa Shiraz - some of the crop finding its way into Penfolds RWT and Penfolds St Henri.

Cool sea breezes from the Gulf of St Vincent and elevation modify temperatures. However, hot  northerly winds can occasionally dominate, creating considerable vine stress.

The region is also known for its relatively low rainfall. Average rainfall is 508mm;  201mm during growing season.

Sandy loams and red-brown soils.

Vines are trained on trellises for mechanical pruning and harvesting.
