The 50 Year Old Rare Tawny is the most prestigious member of the Penfolds fortified family, a rebirth of true heritage. Penfolds winemakers have been selecting, saving and ageing the best fortified materials since the winery's inception in 1844, recognising 170 years of winemaking heritage.
The components used in creating the 50 Year Old Rare Tawny have a minimum average blended age of 50 years and were identified early in their maturation as having great potential. They have been under the watchful eye of at least three generations of Penfolds winemakers.
The 50 Year Old Rare Tawny has been blended incorporating the 1915 vintage of Grandfather from stock reserves held in glass. The earliest recorded vintage used in the establishment of Penfolds 'Grandfather' Tawny as we know it today -- this wine showcases Penfolds house style.
The inaugural release Series 1. is limited to 330 bottles globally, each bottle has been individually hand blown and designed by master glass craftsman Nick Mount. Each bottle is individually numbered 1 -- 330.
