New annual release date for Penfolds finest

Today Penfolds announced a change to the annual release timings for its Bin Series and Icon and Luxury Collection wines. Currently released in March and May respectively, the new vintage fine wines will now be unveiled as one collection on Thursday 16th October 2014.

Spanning five vintages (2010 – 2014) The Penfolds Collection, as it will now be referred to, is led by the highly anticipated release of 2010 Grange. This is the 60th consecutive release of Penfolds flagship wine sourced from a critically-acclaimed vintage that saw South Australia benefit from arguably the best conditions seen within this decade. The 2010 vintage was particularly well suited to Penfolds winemaking philosophy and style.

Penfolds Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago, said; "There is no better time to change the date of release of these wines, than with the highly anticipated 2010 Grange and 2012 reds. This is a wonderful fine wine message and a perfect entrée into Penfolds next 170 years, all to be realised in October 2014!

For over 170 years Penfolds has shown that it is prepared to innovate and lead, while all the while maintaining a consistent focus on quality. An October release for our Bin Series and Icon and Luxury wines honours those credentials."

Moving the release of Penfolds Bin Series and Icon and Luxury Collection wines to one annual release, on the third Thursday in October each year will ensure Penfolds wines are more accessible to wine enthusiasts, and available for key gift giving occasions including Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter. Overall as a collection, the October release highlights include: the return of star Cabernet Sauvignon Bins 707 and 169 with the 2012 vintage and benchmark 2012 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz, 2012 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz and 2012 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon. Other items of note include the 30th consecutive release Magill Estate Shiraz from vintage 2012 and an anniversary of 20 years after the first Reserve Bin release. The 2013 Reserve Bin A Adelaide Hills Chardonnay continues to push the boundaries of contemporary winemaking providing an intriguing counterpoint to the multi-regional Yattarna.

Simon Marton, Chief Marketing Officer Penfolds, said the Penfolds winemaking team has been waiting for this change for some time. "This adjustment is a positive step forward for the brand delivering many benefits. It comes on top of our decision to significantly step up our marketing investment on Penfolds in the coming months and as part of the release including: a global advertising campaign, amplification of the luxury gifting suite, increased consumer activation in key markets and a powerful consumer promotional offer in Australia from July."
